Hello Family is going to be a wondrous warm performance about brothers, sisters, parents and other riff-raff. About the people we did not choose, but are just there. Always. Even when we do not want them there. That annoying little sister, that so-called funny uncle, that vague cousin. They all come and visit. Unannounced and without presents.
With a group of remarkable loners, we come together. Hello Family is a night-time party full of unexpected visitors, in which our real family members play a part as well. How? That remains a surprise…
Hello Family is a dance- and theatre mix by Moniek Merkx along the lines of theatre hit Love. After the topic of love, it is now all about family, a recurring topic in her work, for example with Bizon & Zn. (Bizon and sons), Mijn moeder en ander gespuis (my mother and other riff-raff), The Horrible Stepmother Show, Lear’s Daughters and, of course, Nobody’s Boy. Hello Family premieres at Christmas time in the Maaspodium. After that, it will go on tour throughout the country in the spring of 2019.
Love won a Silver Cricket 2017 and has been nominated for a Golden Cricket and the VSCD Mime award. “Recognizable, contagious and above all, heart-warming” said the Mime jury about Love.
Moniek Merkx about Hello Family
“You will always be a child, even when you are fifty. And when you are three, you can be in such a serious mood that you would preferably sit by the fire with a long beard. At a large family table, we celebrate and play an intricate family game. The kids get more and more mature and vice versa. The roles and positions change constantly, we dance on the table until dawn. After this, no one will be the person they thought they were.”
