In his directorial debut JACK, circus maker Benjamin ‘Monki’ Kuitenbrouwer strips three disciplines to the bone, before carefully rebuilding them into one story: circus, music and light.
A musician walks from instrument to instrument. He plugs and unplugs cables to get the sound he needs. The lighting designer manipulates light and decor by adjusting lamps and hoisting cables during the show. And the juggler… well she juggles. In her own creative style, a fluid mix of acrobatics, dance and juggling. Together they constantly create new images in your head and live on stage.
JACK is an energetic, positive performance about the coming together of three artists and the power of storytelling. With purple neons, bright yellow juggling clubs and growling synthesizers. Because who said sober should be boring?
Benjamin Kuitenbrouwer, better known as MONKI, graduated from Codarts Rotterdam in 2014 and received a scholarship from the Friends of Codarts for his graduation act. Since then, MONKI has produced two solo performances and is part of the French Chinese Pole collective Sous le Manteau. In the season 2018-2019 he was on the shortlist for CircusNext.
TENT is the story of the new circus. Since 2010 TENT shows that circus is more than breath taking tricks and outstanding physical performances. We support circusmakers in their development and produce interdisciplinary circus productions. Our productions combine circus technique with theatre, dance, music and visual arts and tell a story that touch the audience and society.
