The full program will be announced soon.
On Friday, June 13, Amira al Rawi invites you to a special evening centered around her artistic exploration of the intersections between flamenco and her own style. After an intensive year-long journey immersing herself in the world of flamenco and intertwining it with her background and langage of movement, Amira now shares the fruits of her research at Maaspodium.
The evening features a mix of powerful performances: Amira will present new work in which flamenco and hip-hop merge in a unique way, alongside a traditional flamenco performance. Amira will also offer a personal reflection on her process and the outcomes of the project.
As part of the program, a compelling documentary will be screened that explores the historical connection between flamenco and Spain’s history of slavery. A story rarely told, yet deeply echoed in the rhythms and emotions of the dance. An evening where tradition, identity, and expression come together — raw, honest, and full of fire.
TABLAO FLAMENCO
Flamenco performance, in its traditional ‘tablao’ form, does not follow a script, does not tell a particular story, but speaks of the human condition in general, or simply of everyday life. Music and dance in its purest form.
The cante(singing) flamenco is a lament, a shout, a clamor, a laughter ... Little poems of popular origin or great poets of Spanish literature, which the cantaores(singers) fumble according to their inspiration, without any script, and without any other bondage than the rhythm and the flamenco style that is being performed.
Based on rhythm, compás, cante, guitar and dance are twisted: mutually they recreate, inspire, respond, contrast or accompany ... improvisation is that part of flamenco that cannot be found in the choreography of a theater or audiovisual show, which can only be experienced in a tablao.
Experience a performance of traditional flamenco.
Let the artists take you on an emotional journey. Be moved by the magic of flamenco as it gives voice to every human emotion. This exceptional group of artists paints a vivid picture of the human experience through flamenco's timeless art.
Their performance embodies the full range of emotions, from profound sadness to joyous celebration. Flamenco, with its rich heritage and universal appeal, awakens deep emotions. It transcends cultural barriers, allowing profound connections.
