Sara Giampaolo

Sara Giampaolo graduated in 2013 from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem as a teaching theater maker. In her work, she develops and creates projects and performances for and with children, young people, and adults. She also creates performances with a variety of target groups. In both her classes and her performances, she is always focused on sparking the imagination—both in the performers and the audience. Enjoyment and a sense of wonder are key elements in her work.

In addition to her work at Maas, Sara has also worked in recent years with companies such as Wunderbaum, Wat We Doen, and the Jeugdtheaterhuis Zuid-Holland. In 2015, as part of Theater Na de Dam, Sara created a theatrical route with 15 children and young people. The resulting performance, Suja, suja Rotterdam, was staged after the Remembrance Day ceremony on the 4th of May in Delfshaven, Rotterdam. In 2016, she created the performance About Them and Where They Lived, also with children and young people, again for Theater Na de Dam. That same year, she co-wrote and co-directed the solo performance A Little Letter to the Big City with Anne Fé de Boer. The book of the same name was Giampaolo’s first published work. In 2020, Sara directed the performance At the Table as part of Keti Koti 2020. That same year, she created a second performance with Anne Fé, titled just be kind. Just be kind was revived in 2023.

Until recently, Sara worked as an educational creator at Maas, where she led interactive projects such as the participatory programs for Beauty and the Beast and Hallo Familie.

Since the summer of 2020, she has been the youth programmer at the Maaspodium and an artistic associate at Maas.

In the spring of 2021, she collaborated with Moniek Merkx on the pop-up exhibition LIJF010, a four-kilometer walking tour through Delfshaven.

In the fall of 2024, a performance for the very youngest audiences premiered: PRRRT PRRRT FLAP FLAP, which Sara co-created with Esther Schouten.
