IN SHORT: Asset, Liability & Equity explores how we survive within a system that constantly shapes our behavior, desires, and sense of freedom. Through an intense blend of choreography, theater, and audience participation, Connor Schumacher confronts themes such as power, capitalism, status, and responsibility. The performance challenges the audience to become more than spectators and asks one central question: can you handle it?

How do you survive in a system that completely surrounds you on all sides and determines what is possible, what is not, what is allowed or not allowed? What behavior is expected from the outside world, while on the inside a turbulent energy churns that drives you toward something else?

We are here to prepare you for the world. We are made in your image. We want to follow your will, but we cannot hear your voice, and your spirit is confusing. Do you want more nurturance or more dominance? We’re here to practice. To work. To work it out. Competition disguised as love. Empathy mistaken for weakness. Authority that calls itself protection. Care that demands obedience. This is a dance. This is theater. This is work.

Asset, Liability & Equity is partly a tightly and brilliantly designed, virtuosically performed choreography, but it may also evoke a sense of discomfort. In an absurdist spectacle with the intensity of an arena, the presenter, the MC of the performance, creates an environment in which dancers and audience together feel the toll of capital, entertainment, status and gratification. In this new production, Connor Schumacher challenges the audience to be more than a voyeur and makes them an active participant of the offering.

Reach. Reach out. Let me be brave. Let me take responsibility for the weight of this.
You'll love it, you'll hate it, but the question is: how much can you take?

Over de makers

ARK/Connor Schumacher, founded in 2020 by Connor Schumacher, is a Rotterdam-based dance organization that brings social choreography to life. ARK's work moves people, physically and mentally, from the intimacy of theaters to the energy of festivals and clubs.

ARK's deepening in essential soft skills was shaped by participation in international dance research projects such as Empowering Dance and Dancing Museums. This led to collaborations with institutions such as Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Louvre.
ARK creates productions such as Funny Soft Happy & The Opposite, Pilot PC, and Threesome. Recent projects include ClubINC, in collaboration with Theater Babel, and Physical Therapy, a concept for a sober morning rave. In 2024, the techno-jazz musical Raging Against Various Elements premiered. Raging Against Various Elements won De Zwaan in 2025 for the most impressive dance production of 2025.
ARK's philosophy is rooted in neuroscience and psychology, and works towards a social dance culture that knows: Society would be better if we danced everyday.
