Baaard is a visual and humorous performance about doubt, for ages 4 and up. We always want an answer to every question. But isn’t it sometimes fun and exciting to doubt? After all, the world is a strange place. Just when you’ve learned that birds have wings to fly, it turns out there are also birds that can’t fly. Life can feel like a game in which the rules constantly change. How do you find your way through that? Confusion creates doubt, but it also inspires imagination, creativity, and joy.
Baaard is an ode to searching and discovering about the imagination that arises when not everything is clear yet. In Baaard, bearded people move through all kinds of familiar and illogical situations. A beard that keeps growing on stage opens up worlds that change again and again. Just when the bearded characters think they understand the world around them, everything is turned upside down and they have to start all over. With curiosity, they travel through colorful, sometimes incomprehensible, but always fascinating beard-worlds.
Hipsters, lumberjacks, wizards, Santa Claus, the bearded lady, and pirates: Baaard is a wild parade of beard-wearing archetypes, where anything is possible. A wordless performance that sparks the wonder and curiosity of young children about what might be hiding behind those beards.
The performance Baaard is created by Milan Boele van Hensbroek, who previously made Blablablaf with STIP. A philosophical, theatrical installation in which children can share their thoughts with a little dog. Milan and Calle researched and developed ideas for Baaard within the FRIS trajectory at Maaspodium.
