How do you find freedom when you are being restricted by your environment? How can you express yourself and discover intimacy when you have little room to move? In the spring of 2026, DOX and MAAS present BLUE: a theater and dance performance by choreographer Dalton Jansen, combining dance, spoken word, and music into one experience.
In BLUE, we take a look through the eyes of a group of young people in a youth care facility. To them, the world stopped spinning. They dream of more freedom: not just to go wherever they want, but for space to feel, express, and be themselves. A search begins for the liberating power of physical and emotional expression. Who dares to be vulnerable?
Dalton Jansen’s recent production, Birds, won a silver cricket (theater award) and the Jonge Zwaan of the Dutch Dance Days in 2022 for the most impressive youth dance production. From the jury report: "A gripping performance where dance and acting are equally valued and mutually reinforcing. The text, choreography, and design are powerful, visual, and poignant."
BLUE is an intimate performance about the power of revealing, feeling, and sharing yourself—and how that can make you freer than you ever imagined.
This performance contains lots of dance, but also some Dutch language. We will put a translation of the text to English on the bottom of this page for non-Dutch speakers.
Tour: March - May 2026
