BONEY BUDDY
Bony Buddy (Dutch title: Skeletje) is a poetic, funny, and comforting performance about saying goodbye. Theatergroep Grote Mensen and Maas theater and dance take you on a journey through memories, mourning rituals, and the mystery of death with humor, music, play, and color. Because saying goodbye can also be beautiful. And sometimes even festive.
Two performers explore what it means to be dead. One of them has passed away, but hasn’t realized it yet. This leads to confusion and unexpectedly funny moments. Together, they search for ways to say farewell: what remains of someone, and how do you give that meaning? Slowly, a ritual emerges, full of lights, stories, and confusion. And space for joy.
With slapstick, magic, dance, and visual play, a place of remembrance grows – filled with flowers, candles, skeletons, and stories. Bony Buddy builds, together with the audience, its own farewell ceremony. Not heavy or solemn, but playful, moving, and full of life. A performance for anyone who has ever been touched by loss – and wants to discover how, with streamers, dance, and memories, you can also make it into a celebration.
Inspired by traditions such as Día de los Muertos, in which farewell and remembrance are celebrated with color, flowers, and music, Theatergroep Grote Mensen and Maas theater and dance create a lively ritual on stage. The sadness may be there, but so is the party. A sparkling ode to life!

About Theatergroep Grote Mensen
Some people say: “Grown-ups are children who have stopped playing”. How could they know? We are Grown-ups (Grote Mensen in Dutch)). And we do play. We have already experienced a lot, we understand everything by now and we will show that. Grote Mensen makes theatre for little people. Visual, wild, comic performances with slapstick and makeshift sets about serious little and grown-up questions.
Grief and loss as a theme
Bony Buddy is a poetic and sometimes confronting performance about loss, memory, and grief. Themes such as the death of a loved one or saying goodbye to a pet are explored. Some children (and adults) may feel deeply affected by this. The performance isn't shocking, but rather addresses death with care and honesty.
