Just Be Nice
‘Just Be Nice’ is an exercise in the art of being nice, one that comes with few words and contains a lot of climbing, falling, getting back up, drawing, dancing, singing and bumping into each other.
How do you argue with your favourite stuffed animal? Can monsters be sad too? How do you catch a dot? When do you say sorry? Can you love a monster? And how do you dance when your anger is in your legs? Just be kind is a bold, visual and physical ode to practicing being kind.
On a simple white stage, two actors improvise a world full of little arguments and big makeups, bringing live animations to life as they go. They draw a dot, a mosquito, a boat, a dream, a monster or an endless sea. As quickly as they run and stumble, the world they have created is gone again. Only to then create a new world in which they can disappear.

Sara Giampaolo and Anne Fé de Boer: “We constantly tell children they need to be a little nicer. To each other, to us and to the world. The hope is that, if you learn how to truly love someone or something when you’re a child, you’ll be able to do so as well when you become an adult. To really learn how to love, you also have to learn how to quarrel. You have to discover that monsters are a part of life and that, at times, it can be quite fulfilling to start loving your own inner monsters. We thought it would be interesting to explore this idea with and for our little ones, and to translate some of these ideas and concepts to fit within their understanding of the world.

Is the performance not in the morning? Then stick around for the delicious snacktrays full of seasonal treats. If you share your tray with 2 people then a snacktray is €7.95 and for 4 people €13.50. The snacks will be served after the performance!
Maas theater and dance presents an imaginative, mysterious, and humorous exercise in reconciliation for children aged two and up.
It wasn't until near the end of the performance that I realized Anne Fé handled the sound effects and drawing animations on an iPad. That's what kept it engaging for the entire 45 minutes.
As a parent, you don't just sit through the 2+ performance for the sake of your kids, but you also get carried away, uplifted, moved, and leave the theater with a lighter and kinder heart.
I can't help but say: Go see it! Because it's such a beautiful piece of cultural enrichment, for the child, but also for yourself.

"Vandaag met mijn zoontje van bijna 3 naar de voorstelling geweest. Hij heeft de hele voorstelling ademloos heeft zitten kijken en samen hebben we zitten genieten. Heel herkenbare situaties en als volwassenen hilarisch om volwassenen die na te zien spelen. Visual zit het ook ijzersterk in elkaar. Dank je wel!"

"Wij zij met 22 groep 1 kinderen naar de voorstelling Doe eens lief geweest. Vanwege de corona zaten wij alleen in de zaal. Alles is netjes door het maaspodium geregeld. De kinderen waren erg enthousiast over de voorstelling en hebben flink gelachen. De situaties waren voor hen herkenbaar. De kinderen mochten af en toe mee helpen in het stuk, dit vonden zij uiteraard prachtig."

"Wat was WEES EENS LIEF een mooie voorstelling met herkenbare rolmodellen, visuele humor en strakke timing. Knap ook om iedereen bij de voornaam aan te spreken. Onze dochter vond het boeiend en prachtig om mee te kunnen doen en zelfs nog mee te dansen tijdens het naprogramma. Anne Fé en Gihan waren heel lief voor de kids en zochten veel contact met het publiek, wat mijn dochter erg leuk vond, want het liefst was ze de vloer opgerend om mee te doen. "Doe eens lief is een prachtige voorstelling. Alledrie mijn kinderen hebben ademloos gekeken, van 1,5 jaar, 4 jaar en 6 jaar. Ze leefden mee met alle emoties die voorbij kwamen.
