IN SHORT: Language: no broblem is a layered and deeply personal theatre performance that explores multilingualism as both a source of identity and conflict. The show reveals how language not only connects but also suppresses and shapes us. Marah Haj Hussein interweaves memories with the voices of her family members in Palestine, who navigate between Palestinian Arabic and Hebrew.

About the makers
Monty
With the arts as an exercise in living, arts center Monty engages in dialogue with society. Monty supports performing artists in developing their personal artistic voice and in creating their performances. Monty organizes encounters and exchanges between unheard and critical voices, unconventional stories, and diverse perspectives within a varied performative program. Monty invites audiences, artists, and itself to take nothing for granted. We take and give time and space for not knowing — to look together from a searching attitude and with an open mind.
Marah Haj Hussein
Marah Haj Hussein (1998) is a Palestinian dancer, actress, and maker from Kofor Yassif in occupied Palestine. She lives in Antwerp, where she graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dance from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. In June 2023, she completed her Master’s in Drama at KASK in Ghent. By bringing together two disciplines, Haj Hussein questions the line that separates text from movement and continually seeks possible ways to allow both to coexist within the performative space. In her own work, she explores the concept of mother tongue and examines the power dynamics between languages, which has resulted in: Kilma Hilwa & Zayt Zaitoun (2021), In Exile (2022), and Language: no broblem (2023).
Alongside her own creations, she performs in Another Sacre, coached by Alain Platel & Bérengère Bodin, TH LNG GDBY by Tuur Marinus, and Colors by Frank Dierens and Jitse Huysmans. Starting in 2024, she is an Artist in Residence at Moussem Nomadic Arts Center.
