Purchase your ticket in advance for the Beginners or Advanced class, or join the Open Session. No previous experience is required for the Beginners class, and you can start at any time during the season. Reservations can only be made online through the website.
Classes take place on black ballet floors. To help keep the floor in good condition, we kindly ask participants not to wear shoes with white soles during the vogue classes.
Beginners: 7:00–8:00 PM
Advanced: 8:00–9:00 PM
Open Session: 9:00–10:00 PM
Vogue Fem is one of the three main vogue styles. This style emphasizes a hyperfeminine performance. Vogue Femme is built around five core elements. Combined with energy and emotion, these elements define the style:
Hands Performance
Catwalk
Duckwalk
Spins & Dips (not "death drops"!)
Floor Performance
Please note: Ballroom Thursdays was formerly known as Vogue Fem Thursday. Every last Thursday of the month, the class will focus on a different ballroom category. Keep an eye on the Instagram accounts of Maaspodium and Typhoon Angels for updates.
About the teacher
Guilliano Pinas – Legendary European King Father Typhoon Basquiat
Guilliano Pinas, also known as Father Typhoon Angels, is dedicated to creating safer spaces and empowering Black queer and trans communities around the world. His mission focuses on fostering safer spaces, promoting empowerment, creating international impact, preserving ballroom culture, and advancing awareness and acceptance.
In addition to this work, Guilliano Pinas is widely recognized as the Legendary European King Father of the iconic Haus of Basquiat, the founder of the Kiki House of Angels, and the instructor of the Ballroom Thursdays classes at Maas. Occasionally, classes may be taught by a guest instructor or substitute teacher.
ABOUT VOGUING
Voguing encompasses a variety of styles. During Ballroom Thursdays, we focus on Vogue Fem. Once a month, we also explore a different vogue style in our special Ballroom Thursdays 'Category Is' class. More information about which style will be featured and when the next 'Category Is' class will be announced soon.
Vogue is a dance style that originated within the ballroom culture of the Black and Latinx LGBTQIA+ community in New York City. It is characterized by expressive poses, elegant movements, and confident performance. Over the years, several vogue styles have evolved, each with its own unique technique, energy, and history. In our classes, participants not only learn the movements but also gain insight into the rich culture and history that are deeply connected to vogue and ballroom.
